Modeling Reality With Virtual Worlds

Virtual Worlds can be used by playing and interacting in games or by interacting solely behind a computer or phone by being on some form of an app. Some pros of a virtual world include: easier access for communication, because it's easier online to find old friends and relatives or whatever you are searching for. Also its good because the speed of a search result is almost instantaneous and you can basically do most things without having to leave your house so it can be more time efficient. There have also been many reports that people who have great video gaming skills would turn out to be good surgeons because of their precision with their hand movements. However, while this may be good virtual worlds can also be bad. People can start becoming dependent on a computer or phone and wont know how to live without one. They also lose out on common social interactions and may not know how to handle real life situations. Everything done online can also create a loss of jobs for certain companies. Technology and a virtual reality has many pros and cons, and everyone has a different opinion on it. I think new technology is more helpful but I believe there should be a balance. It's basically like some people who only know how to use a calculator to do math and without one they don't know the basics because they became too reliant on that one particular thing. Yes it's so much easier to use one but there may be a circumstance in life where you can't use one whether it be pertaining to a job or test and then what does that person do? So thats my point, in life there must be a balance. Virtual worlds are fine but we shouldn't be solely dependent on them where they take up the majority of our time.

Blog About Twitter

A twitter discussion compared to a blackboard discussion is slightly different. When you have a discussion on twitter you retweet in reply to something people have written. When you comment or  retweet you can use hashtags and tag the person's twitter account so they know it's meant for them to see and respond to. A discussion on blackboard is different because all the discussions and comments are in one place. You can read everyones comments and just simply reply right under the person's post. When you have an in-class discussion it is very different from using a media platform. In person you directly respond to the person speaking. In class discussions are also more personal because you can see peoples emotions and facial expressions and it may be easier for them to clarify their comments because some things may be too long to type.

Social Networking Sites

There are various forms of social networking sites. Some popular ones include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. Each one is similar in the sense that they are used for communicating but each one is also different.

Facebook: when I first log into Facebook my 1st impression is that it's a great way to find friends I haven't seen in a long time. I can also see what my friends are posting about and contribute to it as well as see places they've checked into. It is an easy platform to use.

Twitter: when I log into Twitter, my first impression is that it is confusing. I feel that some people use it consistently and some people don't. You constantly have to use hashtags to gan followers and see what people are talking about.

Instagram: when I log into Instagram my first impression is that it's all pictures.  Instagram is very informative for finding popular trends. You can find anything from business postings to makeup tutorials. You can write posts but you can post pictures of what you're doing for your friends to like and comment.

Snapchat: when I log into snapchat my 1st impression is that everyone is posting videos of their daily life. A video can last 24 hours and you can also send a snap that can last 10 seconds. It is also an easy platform to use. It helps you get in contact with my friends as well as mutual friends I might know.

Social Net'g

Social Networking:

Companies use social media for many different purposes. Some uses of social media include promoting brand awareness, advertising strategies and and marketing purposes. It allows the business to get involved with the community and monitor what people think of their products. This technology allows consumers to search for products easier and quicker. People have access to reviews of products and loads of information and research based on what the internet provides. It's very useful for people so that they know exactly what they're getting and where to get it.
However, there can be a dark side to new technologies also. People can become too dependent on the internet for information. Companies may also find it easier to promote an e-business where they do not have to pay for retail space and extra money for employees. This will create a lack of jobs and the people so accustomed to the internet will start forgetting how to interact socially with other people. I think that at the rate our technology is evolving it might become hard for people to adjust because our brains can not work as fast. Once we learn one thing, something new will develop and then we will have to quickly learn that .
